Dr. Anant Sharma is a nationally and internationally recognized consumer protection leader with over forty years of dedicated work in strengthening India’s consumer rights ecosystem. Known for transforming the consumer movement from a limited awareness effort into a nationwide mass movement, he currently serves as the National Chairman of the Consumer Confederation of India (CCI), the country’s largest network of consumer organizations.

Originally trained as an Ayurvedic doctor, Dr. Sharma chose journalism as his professional path. Alongside journalism, he devoted himself entirely to consumer welfare, emerging as a strong voice of consumer rights in India. He also serves as the National Secretary of the Association of Small and Medium Newspapers of India.

Dr. Sharma began his social journey with the establishment of the Genius Students Society, a non-political student organization through which he facilitated scholarships, awards, and recognitions for thousands of students across the country.

His involvement in consumer protection started during his student years when he served as the Secretary of a National Consumer Organization. In 1991, he founded the Consumers Action and Network Society (CANS). In 1992, he became the founding President of the All Rajasthan Consumer Organization Federation, representing more than 70 consumer groups across Rajasthan.

In 1993, he launched Consumers World, a fortnightly magazine dedicated to consumer education and awareness. In 2001, during the formation of the Consumer Confederation in New Delhi, he was unanimously elected as its first National Convener. He currently leads the Central Council of VCAs & PCAs, a self-regulatory body for voluntary consumer protection activists as the National Chairman.

Dr. Sharma is widely respected as a subject expert and public speaker on consumer affairs. He has participated in more than 2,500 television programs, authored over 700 published articles, and delivered more than 1,000 keynote addresses at national and state-level conferences, seminars, and workshops.

Over the course of his work, he has traveled more than 800,000 kilometers to attend and organize consumer protection events, exhibitions, and awareness campaigns. Millions of citizens have benefitted from these initiatives. Through his leadership, over 50,000 consumers have received free legal aid, and he has personally facilitated relief by filing nearly 1,000 consumer complaints before various consumer forums and commissions.

Dr. Sharma has represented India internationally on consumer rights and has led multiple delegations abroad. He is associated with numerous national and global consumer advocacy networks and continues to spearhead high-impact campaigns for consumer safety, quality standards, and grievance redressal.

He has served as a member of several Government of India committees related to consumer affairs, including the Central Consumer Protection Council. His contributions extend across key regulatory bodies such as LIC, the MSMEs, and the Food Safety and Standards Authority. Presently, he serves on major committees including the Executive Committee of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the Working Group of the International Standards Organization (ISO), and the ZRUCC of Indian Railways.

Dr. Anant Sharma has been honored with numerous awards from government and non-government bodies and is also known as the “Consumer Man of India” for his exceptional work in consumer welfare. He maintains a strong digital presence, with a large following on social media platforms, where his content continues to spread consumer awareness and education.
